Independent schools consultation

Tellus is a quantitative self-completion online survey designed to gather children and young people's views on their life, their school and their local area. The survey is currently completed by pupils in Years 6, 8 and 10 in maintained mainstream and special schools, Pupil Referral Units and Academies. The data the survey generates is used at a local and national level to inform policy development and the services delivered to children and young people in their local area.

We are now consulting with Independent Schools, Local Authorities and other organisations with an interest in the Tellus data about the feasibility of extending the Tellus5 survey to include children and young children attending Independent schools. This is to make the survey findings more representative of the views of all children and young people in England. Many services provided by local authorities can be accessed by children and young people regardless of the school they attend.

We are interested in your views on whether you feel the Tellus survey should incorporate the views of children and young people attending Independent schools. If a decision is made to extend the survey to independent sector we will consult further on the detail of the way forward.
